Yes, Thanksgiving is supposed to be about being grateful, spending time with family, peace and joy. Yet, we all know it can also be a breeding ground for family conflict. Let’s admit it, right now we are living in a very difficult time. It’s the aftermath of Covid-19, many people have lost their lives, family members, homes, jobs, stability. Politically our nation is very turbulent right now. Everyone gets offended about anything, and people seem to have forgotten what kindness is. These are all added tensions to the already delicate dynamics of family get togethers.
If this wasn’t a thing, there wouldn’t be several articles about survival tips for Thanksgiving Dinners. Check out this recent one about talking tips from the Washington Post here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/2022/11/17/thanksgiving-table-family-fights/ .
So if, or when, conflicts start to arise while prepping food, or sitting at the dining room table.. Table IT… and TAKE IT TO THE FIELD! Where you can light up your crazy Aunt “Karen”, or your annoying cousin “Frankie” with some biodegradable BBs.
So instead of this…
Not only will this allow people to take out their aggressions in a healthy way, but it will allow them to remain on speaking terms. Harsh words that are said over holidays, can never be forgotten or taken back. On the field, you are supposed to be competitive and strategic. Sure, you may have some sore losers; but those feelings tend to evaporate more quickly than deep wounds. That, and it’s a perfect way for a family to get out, burn off that sweet potato pie, have fun, and not kill each other.
